As you may have noticed by the character creation thread, it is technically possible to make a kinfolk character. If you as a player wish to do this, I would urge you to continue reading so that you understand the implications of this decision. It is a heavy choice to make, and a difficult path of RP to go down, should you choose to primarily play a kinfolk.
Players are eligible to make kinfolk characters only after submitting and playing a Garou character for 90 days.
Players are eligible to make kinfolk characters only after submitting and playing a Garou character for 90 days.
- First and foremost, Kinfolk in Broken Sky do not have access to the Gnosis merit, nor any backgrounds, abilities, or the like that give them access to rank, renown, or Gifts. These systems and abilities are solely the purview of the Garou, and we will not be allowing Kinfolk to possess these abilities in this setting.
- In a Werewolf the Apocalypse setting, Kinfolk are the mundane characters in the lore and setting. They are the Garou's ties to the mortal world, their access to money, homes, and families. They are the people who hold down a job, push for societal change, and take care of the kids while the Garou are off risking their lives in the midst of battle against Gaia's enemies. Kinfolk is literally a background that Garou characters can buy with freebie points at creation. With this being said, playing a kinfolk as your primary character will severely limit your ability to participate in almost all of the plot lines and events that we run here at Broken Sky.
- Understanding the above items, if you do still choose to play a kinfolk as your primary character, and can convince the Garou to bring you along during an event, the Storytelling team will not hold back on your behalf. Our plotlines, challenges, and enemies are designed with the understanding that the characters joining these events can perform basic Garou functions: they can regenerate damage, they can enter the Umbra, they can change their forms, and they can hold their own in advanced combat situations in which a normal human cannot. We will not lessen these challenges to give your kinfolk a "better chance" of being helpful, nor will we hold back when they draw the ire of a fearsome beast that manages to deal aggravated damage to your character which will likely kill them, as kinfolk cannot soak aggravated damage.
- Finally, if you manage to bring your kinfolk along on an event knowing full well the above information, and something bad happens to them, the Storytellers are not going to apologize, or listen to complaints. You knew the risk vs reward when you made your character.
